Floating the Boise River

Floating the Boise River is a summertime staple for many Boise residents. During this time, it’s not uncommon to see thousands of people spread out over the six-mile stretch that is the Boise River from Barber Park to Ann Morrison Park.

The float is a popular local pastime and it can be pretty relaxing. You can kick back in your raft, enjoy some tunes and even spot some wildlife (like deer and bald eagles) along the way.

If you haven’t experienced it, it may be hard to believe how tranquil it can be to float down the river. The best time to float is in the mornings or early afternoons.

Floating the river is a popular local pastime that can be dangerous when conditions are not right. To help ensure safety, there is only a small window during the summer when it’s safe to float the river. This window usually begins in June and ends in August or September.

Or head to the waterfront to ride river waves with a surfboard or a kayak.

Whether you choose to snag a spot on the shore or float downstream, end your evening with a night of dancing at a local venue like Freak Alley Gallery.
